Meet your instructor

Hi, I'm Talia! I am an actor and instructor at the Improv Asylum comedy theater in Boston. My background in social work, counseling, and nannying, plus a lifelong passion for finding humor in unlikely places, allow me to bring a unique understanding of human connection and empathy to the comedy classroom.

As my student you can expect a patient yet focused approach, and a safe space where you can feel comfortable taking creative risks! (Seriously. See FAQs below.)

In my 25 professional years, my priority has always been keeping the individuals in my care feeling safe and respected, heard and loved, and oh yeah, laughing!

I can't wait to meet you.

FAQs

Don't worry, I got you. Here are some answers for your questions:

Do I need acting experience?

No! You do not need any prior experience. Whether you love the spotlight, or you're reading this thinking "this sounds terrifying...", or somewhere in between, all you need is curiosity and your sense of humor.

Do I have to be funny?

You do not need to be anything except YOURSELF! If you're a human person, that means you are completely unique and unlike any other human person. As corny as it might sound, thats honestly where the best comedy lies! You don't need to TRY to be funny. In fact you're encouraged to simply relax and be yourself, and the comedy will come.

Wait, what IS improv?!

Improv is a live performance art form, where everything is made up on the spot. Short for Improvisational Comedy, actors create characters, dialogue and scenes together in the moment.

Are there offerings for other age groups?

My focus this season is to develop programming for high schoolers. If you'd like to see offerings for a younger age group in the future, please reach out here. I love working with all ages and if there is enough interest I'll try to make that happen!

Will there be a performance?

The February break camp will culminate in a Student Showcase - friends and family are welcome to come be in the audience!

Is financial aid available?

Yes. Limited financial assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Text or call me and I'll be happy to discuss options!

Talia is the most patient and caring improv teacher I've had. She engages every student through her knowledge, sense of play and commitment.

Talia is very well versed in scene work, and helped me become a better improviser and gain confidence in myself on and off stage!
